Emboldened by the apparent abandonment of South Korea by the United States, North Korea massed its forces along the demarcation line and on June 25 invaded at nine different points. Seoul fell on June 28. On June 30 General MacArthur was appointed Commander of United Nations forces dispatched to aid South Korea.
