U.S. troops made their first contact with North Korean forces and were pushed back in disarray. Throughout July the North Korean Army continued to push toward Pusan, the last remaining major city in South Korea.
Finally, in early August the battle weary United Nations forces managed to slow the North Koreans along the Naktong River line giving birth to the Pusan Perimeter.
