The first leg of the trans-pacific flight to Korea was on a U.S. Navy flying boat, the Caroline Mars. That leg originated at Alameda Naval Air Station (near San Francisco) and terminated at Barbers Point Naval Air Station in Hawaii. The pictures of the Caroline Mars included here come from two sources:

  • Steve Ginter's comprehensive publication on the aircraft is one of a series he has produced on naval aircraft. It is number twenty nine in the series and the title is "Martin Mars, XPB2M-1R & JRM, FLYING BOATS". To see some pictures and specs on the Mars click here.
  • The U. S. Naval Institute Photo Service was the source for two pictures of the Caroline Mars. To see them click here.
